All Dance Different
LOVE this painting and it was a really early one of mine. I'm pretty sure I painted it while living in Edinburgh, Scotland (to date, one of the best years of my life) around 2004. I'd live there again in a heartbeat. Anyway, I'm not sure what inspired me..except for those red figures. They were the first ones on the floor. I saw this gorgeous vintage Vanity Fair photograph of girls who were "coming out" into society that year, and the gowns...deliciously draped. I tried painting them, and that's what I ended up with. After the first one, I made them a pair, and then just ran with the pairs dancing idea. The trees were the last couple painted. I really like the triangle zebras. And the floor...LOVE black and white floors. I'm trying to figure out how to do it to a stairway...anyway, never stopped loving this. And as a note, in the title it called out to be "All Dance DifferentLY" but I wanted it to stop short of that and sound odd. That's why it's titled "All Dance Different". It just resonated.
